Dinosaur of the Day #25 - Dilophosaurus Gen 2

Alankylosaurus

Dilophosaurus is a dinosaur which lived approximately 193 million years ago during the early Jurassic Period. It was first discovered in 1942 in Arizona by Sam Welles. In 1970, he named it Dilophosaurus. Its name means “double crested lizard”.

Thanks to its portrayal in Hollywood movies such as Jurassic Park, Dilophosaurus is one of the most misunderstood of all dinosaurs. That is because the movie depicted this dinosaur doing things that it is not believed to have done in real life. For instance, in the movie it is shown spitting poison at its prey to blind it. There is no proof whatsoever that this dinosaur was poisonous, or that any dinosaur could spray venom in the same way depicted in the film. Another misconception presented as fact in the movie was the expandable neck frill shown on these creatures. There is no proof whatsoever to back up the existence of this anatomical feature.

Another thing portrayed incorrectly in these films is the size of these animals. In the movie, these dinosaurs were seen as cute creatures about the size of a dog. This isn’t the case in real life. In reality, these creatures were about 20 feet long and weighed approximately a thousand pounds. Much bigger than your average dog, for sure.

In my opinion Dilophosaurus Gen 2 is just not worth bothering with once you get a few dinosaurs into your collection. I think you are much better off focusing on the primary version and leveling it up to keep it in line with your better dinosaurs. It has however, worth leveling just to farm it for Tyrannolophosaur.

Same input as yours.
Its just a farming dino for tyrannolophosaur.
Tyrannolophosaur is in my team, hes pretty good.
Dilophosaurus gen 2 is just one of those dinos people dont bother darting, until he gets a legendary hybrid.

It has been nearly a year since the Dinosaur of the Day discussions started and I thought it might be nice to slowly revisit them and see how things have changed.

Rarity: Common.
Metahub Tier: Scavenger.
Health: 3000.
Damage: 1800.
Speed: 121.
Defence: 0%
Critical chance: 5%

Distraction.
Nullifying Strike.
Immune to Distraction.

So, Dilopshosaurus Gen 2 has been a bit of a surprise since launch. She has now had a bit of a health and damage increase, making her perhaps a bit more viable for the lower levels. With her new damage and immunity to distraction, I might even go so far as to say she is worthwhile heading into mid-game too if even as a support option. I am quite impressed by the change to be honest.

Anyone using her out there? How are you finding her now?

Resistant to distraction (100%)

Poor Dilophosaurus Gen 2 has seen her damage upped a tiny amount but her health has taken quite the hit! Really not sure she needed that. As a cunning creature she retains the distraction with a small boost, but like her uncommon sister losing nullify in favour of simple damage feels like a bit of a nerf to me. Sadly, I think her general usefulness has dropped down and she is now a starter dinosaur and little more than a DNA farm now for Dilophoboa and Tyrannolophosaur.

Dilophosaurus has no place in Raids as they currently stand, like the majority of Common rarity creatures.

What are your thoughts on Dilophosaurus Gen 2 after 2.0 and how would you use her now?
