Dinosaur of the Day #29 - Dimetrodon Gen 2

Alankylosaurus

Dimetrodon is an extinct synapsid which lived approximately 295 million to 272 million years ago during the Permian Period. It was first discovered during the 19th century and was named by Edward Drinker Cope in 1878.

Dimetrodon, which means “two measures tooth”, had two different kinds of teeth in its rather large skull. The first set of teeth are designed to capture and hold prey. The second set of teeth were used to shear flesh from bone. Judging from its teeth and jaw design, it’s quite obvious to paleontologists that Dimetrodon was a meat eater.

This animal’s fossils have been found all over the world. They have been found all over Europe, in Texas and Oklahoma in the U.S and in parts of Nova Scotia, Canada. It would appear that this was a very successful and widespread animal during its 20 million year span.

Although Dimetrodon pictures make this animal look like a dinosaur, it was, in fact, a synapsid – which is a type of reptile. It was about 15 feet long, weighed around 550 pounds and walked on all four legs. It had an enormous sail-fin on its back and had a long tail.

One of the most interesting facts about Dimetrodon is that paleontologists believe that the enormous fin on the back of this animal was used to regulate temperature. During the day, it is believed that it would have absorbed heat from the sun. Heat that would slowly be released at night when it got colder. However, that is not the only theory about this animal’s sail-fin. Other paleontologists have theorized that it could have been used to intimidate other animals or that it was used during mating. Of course, any or all of these 3 theories may be true.

Dimetrodon Gen 2 is almost identical stat wise to it’s primary sister. Dimetrodon Gen 2 maintains immunity but loses out on the attack methods. Damage output isn’t great although over the two offensive powers it has the ability to ignore armour and in one attack, ignore shields.

Dimetrodon Gen 2 isn’t great at all. In fact, the only reason to gather DNA for this dinosaur is to create the hybrid Monolometrodon.

The 1.7 update increased Dimetrodon’s health from 3990 to 4110.

It has been nearly a year since the Dinosaur of the Day discussions started and I thought it might be nice to slowly revisit them and see how things have changed.

Dimetrodon Gen 2 has received a very nice boost to her health since launch but nothing else has changed. I stick to my original assessment that the damage isn’t great but it is a handy early on dinosaur if you can get it. Personally I haven’t seen one in the wild for several months now. She is still just a DNA farm for Monolometrodon but since that is a good hybrid, maybe that isn’t so bad. Does anyone still use Dimetrodon G2 and if so, how do you find that she works?

Resistant to damage over time (100%), speed decrease (100%), stun (100%) and vulnerable (100%).

Dimetrodon Gen 2 has seen a bit of a change since the new update. Damage has increase but for some reason she has seen a sizeable downsize in health. Her abilities likewise remain unchanged. Just like her Rare sister, Dimetrodon Gen 2’s immunity has become an immunity to four specific negative effects. With an improvement to damage I think she is a fair choice for starter players but will quickly become a DNA farm for her hybrid, Monolometrodon.

Dimetrodon Gen 2 is the same as her sister in that she just doesn’t have the damage and teamwork options to be a good Raid choice in my opinion.

What are your thoughts on Dimetrodon Gen 2 after 2,0 and how would you use her now?

Not the best, but something not to underestimate in common tournaments

Aye. Like many Commons, she has a niche in those events.
