Dinosaur of the Day #35 - Diplodocus

#1

Alankylosaurus

Diplodocus is a dinosaur that lived about 154 million years ago—during the Jurassic Period—in parts of Western North America. It was first discovered in 1877 by Samuel Wendell Williston and was subsequently named by Othniel Charles Marsh in 1878. The name Diplodocus is a neo- Latin term that means “double beamed”; a reference to the double chevron bones that are located on the underside of the tail.

This dinosaur is not only one of the most recognizable dinosaurs on the planet, but is also considered to be one of the longest. An adult Diplodocus could be over 175 feet long, While other dinosaur species may later prove to be longer than this one, this species is currently the longest one due to the fact that it has more complete skeletal specimens than other dinosaurs do.

It is believed that this dinosaur could whip its tail in much the same way as the Apatosaurus did; Cracking the tail like a bullwhip. Computer models have since shown that the speeds of this tail flicking could have reached the supersonic level, producing a sound much like a cracking bullwhip. However, since the tail of these dinosaurs weighed in excess of 3500 pounds, the sound of this motion would be more like cannon fire and less like a whip crack.

One interesting fact about this dinosaur is that it is believed that these dinosaurs didn’t have the necessary teeth to properly chew tree branches, so it has been theorized that the diet of these herbivores must have consisted entirely of leaves, ferns and moss. Plant materials that this animal could strip without using much bite force. It is also believed that these leaves were then allowed to ferment in this dinosaurs extended belly until it was broken down enough for the nutrients to be extracted and used by the animal.

Diplodocus has massive amounts of health giving good survivability for an animal with no armour. It has reasonable damage and surprisingly good speed for such a large animal. Diplodocus is a fairly standard sauropod with typical stats and abilities. Shield Advantage is a new one though but is going to be all that useful? I think not.

I finally have one of these but see no reason to pursue leveling it up at this time unless we get some interesting Diplodocus hybrid.

How many people actually have this dinosaur? Ive never seen. I’m probably bad.

I only have Diplodocus because of the recent dinosaur of the week event. I hunted around purely to find event drops with it. Otherwise I too have never seen one in the wild or from an incubator.

I have played in some friendly battles with this one and it is actually really good. Especially at higher levels. That shield advantage can be a game changer. Also the swap in slow allows you to gain advantage over faster opponent. It also has a decel rampage with only a 1 turn cooldown so I think it would be fantastic against some of the faster dinos. Even those with regeneration or cleansing.

I skipped this one when it was a weekly featured dino because I figured I’d get the dna as reward for the season 4 tourney. Looking forward to creating it so it isn’t taunting me at the bottom of the list anymore.

It’s one of the best epics if you ask me. And since Ankylodicus is pretty much soft canon at this point (Jurassic World Evolution has it as well), it’s pretty much guaranteed to get that hybrid with either Ankylosaurus or Ankylosaurus Gen 2.

I really hope not. I want it to get a hybrid but please not with an Anky. Both generations already have 2 each and I hate having to try and split DNA.

But I really love Ankylodocus :sob:

I’m sure we’ll see it sooner or later.

Personally, I’m waiting on a Tyrannopatosaurus - a carnivourous sauropod!

I think Spinosaurus Gen 2 + Amargasaurus could work better for that.

Since Spinosaurus is by default really skinny, mixing its head with a long neck wouldn’t look so goofy. Also, Sails and spikes for days

I would love to see a Spino 2 hybrid

Yeah, and I really wish they would make something crazy out of it. Like, Concavenator + Spino Gen 2 + Secondontosaurus. Something with three huge sails.

maybe Ludia would add Ankylodocus as a legendary hybrid made of Ankylocodon (the rare hybrid) and Diplodocus, so that way both Ankylosaurus would still have two hybrids and Ankylocodon would have a super hybrid.
If that happen Ankylodocus would be an inmune tank so that would be interesting
