Dinosaur of the Day #49 - Gallimimus

Gallimimus

Gallimimus is a dinosaur which lived 71 million years ago during the late Cretaceous Period. This dinosaur was around 7 feet high at the hips, 26 feet long and weighed around 950-990 pounds. It has been described as an ostrich like dinosaur that had long legs, short arms, a long leg that had a very small head at the end of it and a beak that didn’t have any teeth. It also had hollow bones which kind of makes this animal as much as a bird as it was a dinosaur.

Gallimimus was first discovered in 1963 by Zofia Kielan- Jaworowska in the Gobi Desert in Mongolia. She would report her findings two years later and by 1972 it had been named by Rinchen Barsbold, Ewa Roniewicz and Halszka Osmólska. The name chosen for this dinosaur, Gallimimus, comes from the Latin word for “chicken” gallus and the Latin word for “mimic” mimus. Therefore, the name of this dinosaur literally means “chicken mimic.” So named because paleontologists believe that these dinosaurs moved in much the same was as modern chickens moves.

Many paleontologists believe that these dinosaurs could move with tremendous speed. An interesting fact is that some of them have even speculated that these dinosaurs could have moved as fast as 60 miles per hour. This was probably so this dinosaur could evade predators however, and not because it needed that kind of foot speed to hunt. Most likely, these dinosaurs probably ate things such as plants, fruit, seeds, small insects and maybe the eggs of other dinosaurs.

Gallimimus is fast, it dodges well and you can’t stick negative effects upon it. It’s a nice bundle for low-ish level players but it is unfortunately another one which is going to be left behind once you get other dinosaurs up to a decent level.

I wish, for an immune dodger

I agree, @Colin_Goodman! Gallimimus is a great addition to your team in lower Arenas. With its high speed and Evasive Strike ability along with Impact and Run, Gallimimus can usually deal its damage and escape out of the battle unscathed! Gallimimus is also one of the key ingredients in creating Monomimus.

Thanks. Not sure how that 4 slipped in there.

Unfortunately I never got around to using this dino. But I’ve always liked them as a whole, and I do agree that, for lower arenas, these little guys can be very useful. If you’re lucky, of course.

The 1.7 update gave Gallimimus a bit of a nice boost. Her damage increased to 1280 and health from 1800 to 2100!

Not sure this makes her a better option but for the lower level Arena it is a nice boost.

It has been nearly a year since the Dinosaur of the Day discussions started and I thought it might be nice to slowly revisit them and see how things have changed.

Gallimimus has largely remained the same as she ever was. Big differences though are a huge buff to health and a drop to damage. My opinion of her has not changed though. She is a handy addition to a low level team with a nice combination of abilities but she won’t remain long once better dinosaurs are discovered or you unlock the hybrid, Monomimus.

Has anyone have any differing thoughts or ideas for using this dinosaur in the current age of the game?

Resistant to distraction (100%, stun (100%) and swap prevention (100%).

Gallimimus has received a nice increase in damage but nothing else has changed across her stats and abilities. Having used her recently I can confirm that she can be quite handy and useful, even as just a Common. I don’t think she will see much use following 2.0 though and will most likely remain a DNA farm for Monomimius.

Gallimimus is not a suitable creature for Raid battles. She just isn’t strong enough to handle the bosses.

What are your thoughts on Gallimimus after 2,0 and how would you use her now?

With the nerf to evasive strike against counter attackers, resilient moves, and the fact that it relies on dodge and can be slowed, it is really bad. Ornith can compensate with ID and rampage and run along with the high attack, but galli just loses out majorly.

Too many resilient creatures have really hurt her. Using her this week as part of my theme team I have found her to be good enough for what she is. I wouldn’t expect anyone else to really use her outside of newer players though.
