I live for tourneys. They are so much fun. Except when the formats are lazy and uncreative. These four tournaments epitomize boring. Seems like staff decided to take the month off.
I know there were a vocal few who couldnt stomach the “1 Kill” tourney from a couple months back, but dont let those loud and outraged dampen Ludia’s creativity.
Here are a couple fun ideas:
*Staggered Levels (All Commons are set to 26, Rares set to 23, Epics set to 20, legendary set to 18, unique set to 16) That way the players must figure out the relative strengths between base stats and complex moves.
*Only pure classes (no half fierce/ half resilient etc)
Just a few suggestions. Again, Ludia youre never gonna make everyone happy. And youll usually hear more grumblings from the few misanthropes than applause from the majority. But these these basic formats are chicken and rice.
As someone who normally enjoys a tourney grind, I must say the balanced teams theme is not a good format, and it’s burning me and many other faithful tournament players out. While I can see balanced teams having more of a place in Advantage tournaments simply because different creatures will be boosted in various ways, there is little to no benefit for this format in skills. You literally have to double the time and effort to barely get anywhere quite simply because of the teams you draw. Quite often you will get teams of only ONE epic (and usually not your best) and the rest rares. I’ve even drawn all rares. The effect of this is twice as much rng if not more, and so much more grinding that just is not fun. I am all for creative ideas, but this balanced teams format for skills isn’t something many of us want to sit through. I am concerned it will cause more burnout (I know of several people who have expressed this) and I don’t see this being a sustainable format for hard-core players long term. I know there are others here who might disagree, and that is fine, but the vast majority of people I know are not a fan of this format. Please, Ludia, go back to what worked for skills - a format that actually required more skill and less rng
After discussing this tourney in length with some people, all agree that this format is not ideal for skills. If you were to do a balanced team skills again, the only way it would be kind of acceptable is if the game was programmed to draw 2 of each rarity for every battle. This makes a lot more sense than the rng set up we had, and would actually constitute as being somewhat balanced. What we had this past weekend was NOT balanced.
